so not all formula companies are evil??

so to go along with this weeks topic of being a hippy earth mama (make that dirty hippy- im not sure the last time i brushed my teeth...) i am tackling yet another mom issue to some: formula.

ive been supplementing my breastmilk with formula since day 1. why? because im lazy and its easier. oh yeah, and because the whole breastfeeding thing didnt work out so well. so she gets maybe a bottle a day of formula- sometimes not at all (those days im particularly proud of my boobs) and we are all happy campers. but lately ive been skeeved out on the formula thing after reading scary articles, so i decided to do some research on organic formulas.

while i was on diapers.com- the new satan after babies r us since its sooo easy to spend entirely too much money there- i was going green in the formula section and found vermont organics baby formula. omggg i lived in vermont for a year and the cow to people ratio is out of control. they love being earthy, mountain-climbing, tree huggin people up there, so i knew the 'made in vermont' seal was the real deal. i checked out their website and couldnt find their address... so i called! a very nice lady in virginia said that the organic formula plant is located in georgia, vermont- a little south of burlington. i found that the parent company is pbm nutritionals (also i found more info on the baby organic site and pbm's site- and its the only USDA certified organic formula manufacturer in our lovely usa and also has very happy cows.

another fun thing i found (though only after buying the vermont organics formula) that they sell the vermont-made organic formula under other brands- ultra bright beginnings organic and surprisingly- parents choice organic formula....get ready... sold exclusively at walmart!!

ANDDDDDD the bestest part of all is that the parents choice (literally the same stuff as what i just bought for $23.99) can be purchased for way cheaper- around $15. seriously. the sugar is lactose from organic cows milk not cane sugar or corn syrup like other formulas (regular or organic).

if youre considering going organic, check out this site that has a bunch of reviews. what an interesting investigation!
